We want to acknowledge that the land we live, work, learn, and commune on is the Seminole, Tequesta, and Calusa tribal nations’ original homelands. We acknowledge the painful history of genocide and forced removal from this territory. We honor and respect the many diverse Indigenous peoples still connected to this land on which we gather. The Seminole Tribe of Florida still thrives on their ancestral lands under the Treaty of Payne’s Landing while the Calusa and Tequesta tribes fell to colonization and genocide.
