Meet Beth Deck, celebrating 25 years as the Regional Director for the Lutheran Services Florida, ESC Youth Shelter.
25 years is a long time for some, but with the same enthusiasm she felt at the time, Beth still tells the story of the first time she read about the opening of Currie House in the newspaper! She was working someplace else then, but as she excitedly pointed to the Currie House story, she confidently told her kids, “That’s my next job!”
Fortunately for us, she was right! She jumped into her job with the excitement of a child at Christmas — filled with hope and possibilities. That “new job” quickly turned into something much bigger –her commitment to serve and make a positive difference to the families in our community, and to help them survive their children’s adolescence.
We all know that teenagers are Beth’s favorite, above all else — which is likely why she’s stayed so long! Driven by this crazy love for the awkwardness of teens and armed with her strong faith in God, she accepted the responsibility for the Northwest Region.
Beth continues to endear herself to all she leads. She’s shared in our work crises, personal tragedies, and our joys. Regardless of the position or any status we may have, she loves us all and let us know it the very first time she made our acquaintance. To us, she is this and so much more, and we’re so glad she’s still here!
