Lutheran Services Florida (LSF) is a non-profit organization, transforming lives by ensuring safe children, strong families and vibrant communities. Founded in 1982, LSF currently touches the lives of 1 in 50 Floridians every year through various programs, including early education, youth shelters, foster care, refugee and resettlement services, substance abuse mental health services, and adult guardianship. Headquartered in Tampa, Florida, LSF has more than 60 programs throughout Florida and approximately 1,200 dedicated employees.
He never imagined that it would come to this.
Last year, Maihan Saeedi was working in Afghanistan for the government, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Afghanistan. He has his Ph.D. in International Studies and enjoyed his job. But on August 15, 2021, everything changed.

Imagine having to beg your children to leave a learning center when it time to go. Sandra knows that feeling because her two small children Ky-Mani just 4 years-old and Naria 5 years-old have some much fun exploring and learning at the Children’s Board Family Resource Center they ask to stay even after the program ends.
Delmar Gusdal was the one who led the effort to form LSF. He was involved from the beginning when we were a handful of missions across the state – most of which he had a hand in starting. Delmar wore multiple hats in those days – the mid ‘70s – he was an educator of clergy and congregations and he led the effort between the then three Lutheran bodies to address social needs in the communities.
