BROWARD COUNTY, Fla. –– On Tuesday, April 27th, LSF, Holy Spirit Lutheran Church of Juno Beach and community committee members are joining to celebrate the success of the ‘Beauty is a Silent Teacher’ campaign with a check presentation. Achieving its capital campaign goal will help revitalize a 36-year-old youth shelter in Broward County.
Holy Spirit Lutheran Church of Juno Beach dedicated a portion of their capital campaign to help with the Lippman remodel. Under the leadership of Pastor James Graeser and Pastor Frank Wagner the church is donating $100,000, bringing the total money raised to over $250,000. Thanks to this donation, renovations will begin soon to significantly enhance the aesthetics and programming capabilities for the most vulnerable youth who come through the shelter’s door seeking answers to their prayers.
Lippman Youth Shelter injects hope for better tomorrows by supporting at-risk youth and healing families that have been torn apart by conflict. Unfortunately, given the age of Lippman Shelter and program grant limitations – which cover room and board, staffing, transportation and daily needs – many ongoing facility needs are not covered. Thankfully, due to the support of generous donors and partnerships with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America and the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod, LSF’s dreams to renovate the shelter have now become a reality.
Many of our youth stay in touch with the counselors who have helped them through their most difficult times. Some have even said the shelters feel like a second home. And, because Lippman Youth Shelter delivers essential services, they never shut down during the pandemic and have been crucial in helping kids cope, deal and heal with their life situations that have now been compounded by the Covid-19. NBC 6 South Florida recently interviewed one of our youth counselors about the goal to provide a haven to keep runaways and homeless youth from entering the juvenile justice and child welfare systems.
