Congratulations Onome Ayemhenre, Head Start Mother and an Aspiring Nurse
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. –LSF Head Start mother and an aspiring nurse, Onome Ayemhenre
was selected as the Ron Herndon Head Start Parent Scholarship recipient for 2018 and will heading to
Anaheim, CA on April 25th to celebrate her accomplishment at the National Head Start Association’s
(NHSA) Scholarship & Awards Banquet.
“We are thrilled that Onome is being recognized for her passion as a Head Start parent and service to her
community,” said LaTanya Wynn-Hall Executive Director of LSF Duval Head Start. “As Onome helps to
build a better community around her and her family, she also volunteers in her children’s classroom at New
Life Head Start where she helps children during art activities, mealtimes, and assists during story time.”
Onome is a wife and mother of five children, two of whom are currently enrolled in the Lutheran Services
Florida Duval Head Start and Early Head Start Program. Although Onome has a lot of responsibility in her
life, she has not let that get in the way of pursuing her dream to become a pediatric nurse. As a part of her
graduate nursing program, she has volunteered across many locations within her community including
Lakeside Nursing Home, Baptist Medical Center, Orange Park Medical Center, and the St. Vincent Medical
Labor and Delivery Center.
The Ron Herndon Head Start Parent Scholarship was established to honor Head Start parents in recognition
of their ambitious efforts to make a real change in their local Head Start programs and
communities. NHSA is excited to celebrate the contributions of community-minded individuals like Onome
who use their talents to embark on future careers.
