LSF in collaboration with Jesus Christ Church of Latter Day Saints and Catholic Charities celebrated WORLD REFUGEE DAY on Saturday, June 3rd at the Golden Gate Community Center. The focus of the celebration was to learn more about the refugee community and those agencies and community partners who serve them.
This year, the celebration focused on Giving and Receiving. Donations from the churches, individuals and other non-profit groups were collected and freely given to those who were in needed. “We were not quite sure how this would go and if we would receive many donations but the heart of men and women are so loving that we collected more than enough to distribute to families in need,” commented Rosemarie Connor, Director of the Southwest Comprehensive Refugee Services from Sarasota to Naples. “We had sofas, dining room tables and chairs, kitchen utensils, clothes and toys. Everything was free.”
So many people were blessed by donations that came from the collaborating partners. It was a good day that was evident by the smiles on the faces of the persons and families.
