Jacksonville, FL –Lutheran Services Florida Duval Head Start/ Early Head Start will celebrate Head Start
Awareness month with a very special theme: World of Nations! This event will showcase the cultural
diversity that exists in Duval County as well as within our Head Start/Early Head Start program.
“Last year’s event was a huge success as we recognized national and local staff Head Start alumni – many of
them are employed by our program today,” LaTanya Wynn-Hall, Regional Executive Director said. “This
year’s theme excites me because at least 144 of our families speak a language other than English. Our event
will feature the different languages and cultures of our families like Spanish, Karen, Burmese, African,
Arabic, Chinese and Vietnamese.”
In 1982, President Ronald Reagan first proclaimed October as Head Start Awareness Month. Since that
time, October is a month communities throughout the United States celebrate the impact of Head Start.
LaTanya has worked in social services for over 25 years. She knows how significant cultural awareness is,
and she – along with her planning committee – invites the community to join in this year’s festivities.
The LSF Duval Head Start ‘World of Nations’ will take place October 26, 2017 at FSCJ’s Downtown
