Lutheran Services Florida (LSF), a non-profit organization headquartered in Tampa, announce a series of events in the Belle Glade community to highlight the organization’s services to the community. The events will occur on Thursday October 13th, 2016, beginning with a Head Start Awareness Day event at the PEPPI Head Start Center (Preschool Enrichment Program with Parental Involvement), and capping off with a “Community Day” at the Sellew Belle Glade Excel Charter School.
The Belle Glade community is also invited to join the PEPPI Head Start program located at 301 SW 8th Street, Belle Glade, FL 33430 on Thursday, October 13th for its annual Head Start Awareness Event. The event will take place at the PEPPI center from 11am – 1pm, and will feature presentations from local community leaders as well as performances from the students. President Ronald Regan declared October Head Start Awareness month in 1982, and this year marks the 51st anniversary of the start of the program in 1965. Since the program opened, millions of children across the country have benefitted from Head Start’s comprehensive services, including health, nutrition, education, and family social services. This event is free and open to the public.
The Belle Glade community is invited to attend an open house event at the Sellew Excel Charter School, located at 555 SW. 16th Street Thursday October 13th, 2016 from 6-8pm. The event will take place in the Glades Shopping Center parking lot in front of the school. The event will include food from various local vendors, a bounce house obstacle course, and other community organizations. The event is also free and open to the public. Sellew Belle Glade Excel Charter School recently received a grant to provide expanded academic services for before and aftercare services and summer programming for 105 K-5th graders. The before and aftercare services mean that students are in the classroom for an extended day, from 7:00 am until 6:30 pm. They have the opportunity to focus on Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) activities.
