Thousands of people passionate about children’s rights gather in Tallahassee once a year to celebrate children and family. During this time, over one hundred thousand paper-hand cutouts are hung in the Capitol Rotunda to symbolize the children affected by the decisions of Florida’s legislators.
The platform for this gathering is Children’s Week. This year’s Children’s Week, Sunday, March 26 – Friday, March 31, 2017, is expecting thousands of children, families and advocates to participate, making it one of the largest events in the State Capitol.
During this event tens of thousands of “hand art” is hung throughout the Capitol Rotunda, creating an amazing display of children’s art. The “hand art” is decorated by children and their teachers, and collected at child care centers and schools across the state. The hands hang in the Capitol Rotunda as a reminder to legislators and advocates that we must take care of our most precious commodity – our children. They symbolize the children affected by the decisions of Florida’s legislators.
Lutheran Services Florida Head Start programs will be participating in this initiative!
