Delmar Gusdal was the one who led the effort to form LSF. He was involved from the beginning when we were a handful of missions across the state – most of which he had a hand in starting. Delmar wore multiple hats in those days – the mid ‘70s – he was an educator of clergy and congregations and he led the effort between the then three Lutheran bodies to address social needs in the communities.

Months after the great Afghan evacuation, many refugees are still trying to find their way in the United States.

They were struggling before, but the pandemic made it worse.
A few decades ago, Lutheran Services Florida had the idea to launch an initiative that recognized those who are actively working to make their communities a better place.
As Afghan and Haitian refugees are forced to leave the volatile and unsafe conditions of their home countries and make their way to the United States, LSF is working hard to arrange housing assistance, provide food, secure medical support, offer translation services, and equip them with pathways to employment and self-sufficiency.
