Tampa Staff Donates to I CAN Literacy Program
Twenty-three-year-old
Mateneh Teoh has been working on her English language skills since she
arrived in Tampa in 2005 from her native country of Liberia. Her
native language was African Creole. Recently this single mother of two has
been attending classes with the

CAN! adult literacy program in Tampa to improve her reading skills.

Head Start Kids Take Field Trip to Aquatic Park
Late last month, 69 three-year-old children from the
PEPPI Head Start program of Lutheran Services Florida (LSF) in Belle
Grade traveled a short distance to Pioneer Park Aquatic Center for a
field trip.
The outing was one of two
field trips scheduled to celebrate the end of the Head Start year before
the new year began in August.

Representatives Meet with President
Obama on Immigration Reform
At a White House meeting on Aug. 20, Lutheran Immigration and Refugee
Service (LIRS) continued to call for fair and humane immigration reform.
Hosted by Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano, the immigration
discussion brought together law enforcement officials, religious groups,
immigrant rights advocates and members of the business community.
