Human
Trafficking Workshop Held
by Integration Services, Pasco
A
workshop on Human Trafficking was held in Dade City on March 18 by Lutheran Services Florida's Integration Assistance
Services in Pasco County. The "brown bag" event was held at the Norma
Learning Center of Farmworkers Self Help and was designed to assist health
and human service care providers to identify and report suspected cases of
human trafficking in the county.

Federal
Disaster Aid Made Available to
Panhandle Counties for March Storms,
Flooding
The head of the U.S. Department of
Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) announced
Apr. 21 that federal disaster aid has been made available for Florida
to supplement state and local recovery efforts in the area struck by
severe storms, flooding, tornadoes, and straight-line winds beginning on
March 26, 2009, and continuing.

Shaw Davis Is New SE Region Director
Formerly of Miami Bridge Youth and
Family Services
Joan
Shaw Davis of Miami has become the new Director for the Southeast
Region of Lutheran Services Florida. Her work began March 2.
Ms. Davis comes to LSF from Miami Bridge Youth and Family Services where she
served for the last ten years as Assistant Executive Director.

from Thrivent Financial for Lutherans
Danielle Kearney, Director of Church and Community Relations for
Lutheran Services Florida (LSF), has been given the 2008 Volunteer
Excellence Award for the Florida Region by Thrivent Financial for
Lutherans, a fraternal agency serving Lutherans nationwide.

of Lutheran Immigration & Refugee
Service to Step Down in September
Ralston H. Deffenbaugh, Jr., president of
Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Service (LIRS) since 1991, has
announced his resignation effective September 1, 2009. Deffenbaugh
stated that at this stage in the life of LIRS, he believes that the
organization needs new gifts of leadership. LIRS is a partner
agency with Lutheran Services Florida.
