Joan
Shaw Davis of Miami has become the new Director for the Southeast
Region of Lutheran Services Florida. Her work began March 2.
Ms. Davis comes to LSF from Miami Bridge Youth and Family Services where she
served for the last ten years as Assistant Executive Director. In all,
Ms. Davis spent 16.5 years at Miami Bridge, working in various
positions, including Director of Programs, Director of Preventive Services,
Senior Social Worker, Trust Counselor, and Residential Program Director.
She also worked for two years with the Florida Department of Children and
Family Services in Miami, two years as a Trust Counselor for Miami-Dade
County Public Schools, and for the past 12 years has been a part time
instructor at Miami Dade Community College where she has facilitated
"Children of Divorcing Parents" workshops on a monthly basis.
Ms. Davis's education includes a Bachelor's degree in Social Work from
Florida International University in Miami, a Master of Science degree in
Human Services from Nova University in Ft. Lauderdale, a Master of Science
degree in Public Administration also from Nova University, a Professional
Certificate in Not-For-Profit Management from Barry University in Miami, and
a Professional Certificate in Family Mediation from Florida International
University in Miami, which is certified by the Supreme Court of Florida.
In addition, her achievements include being a Certified Peer Monitor by the
U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, and a Certified Quality
Assurance Peer Monitor by the Florida Department of Juvenile Justice.
